Exhibition Details

Artists are invited to submit to Various Flora & Fauna, a national juried exhibition, at View arts center in Old Forge, NY. The exhibition is open to artists, age 18 and up, working in all media (artists working in sound, video, or film must provide their own equipment) that utilize plants and/or animals as a subjective platform for their work; be it formal, metaphorical or conceptual.

Judges                                                                                                                                                                                                       

Lee Ann Sporn, Ph.D. is a Professor of Biology at Paul Smith's College, where she specializes in cell and molecular biology.   Her work as a scientist has fueled her passion for biodiversity and its conservation.  She teaches courses in genetics, biochemistry, toxicology and parasitology and her research interests include DNA detection of brook trout in streams, and monitoring the spread of Lyme disease in the North Country.  She is a founding member of NorthWind Fine Arts, a cooperative art gallery located in Saranac Lake, New York and also serves as the Visual Arts Director at the Paul Smith's College VIC.  As an artist, Lee Ann enjoys many media but currently enjoys rendering detailed images of the natural world in colored pencil on mylar.   

Caroline Mastin Welsh is an art historian, curator of art, and Director Emerita of the Adirondack Museum.  She is an honors graduate of the Kent School and Wellesley College (Art History). She was awarded a fellowship in museum studies at the Smithsonian Institution and a fellowship in museum leadership at the Getty Leadership Institute. Her work in the museum profession includes positions at the Smithsonian Institution, the New York State Historical Association, and the Albany Institute of History and Art in addition to the Adirondack Museum. 

As Director of the Adirondack Museum she developed and led major exhibits and programs on Adirondack Rustic to celebrate the museum’s 50th anniversary; led the enhancement of the museum experience through a variety of initiatives to revitalize exhibits and programs; led the stewardship of museum resources to achieve long-term stability; and led museum preparations for achieving re-accreditation.  As museum chief curator she produced many long-term and temporary history and art exhibits; led a host of collections projects including building a 25,000 SF Collections Storage and Study Center; managed museum operations; and oversaw the museum publications program.   As curator of art she produced fourteen art exhibits, three art symposia that attracted a national audience, led three art collection assessments and the renovation of the art galleries and storage. As an art historian she has lectured and published widely on the subject of Adirondack art and artists. Her publications include Adirondack Prints andPrintmakers: The Call of the Wild, (1998), winner of the 1999 Ewell L. Newman Award, The View from Asgaard: Rockwell Kent's Adirondack Legacy with Scott R. Ferris (2000), In Search of a National Landscape:  William Trost Richards and the Artists’ Adirondacks 1850 – 1870 with Linda S. Ferber (2002), Wild Exuberance: Harold Weston’s Adirondack Art, with Rebecca Foster (2005), and The Adirondack World of A.F.Tait (2011), in addition to articles.

Mrs. Welsh is a consultant to museums for exhibit development and collections management, an independent curator for art exhibits, as well as a national peer reviewer for the American Alliance of Museums.  She serves or has served on regional committees and arts organizations in Pennsylvania and New York State as a trustee or advisor including the Friends of the William Penn Museum, the Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, the Society for the Preservation of American Modernists, The Exhibition Alliance, the Hale Historical Research Center, the Trudeau Institute, and the Hamilton College Committee for the Visual Arts.  Mrs. Welsh is a member of The Century Association in New York City and is listed in Who’s Who in America. Her professional memberships include or have included the American Alliance of Museums, the Museum Association of New York State, the College Art Association, ArtTable, the Association of Art Museum Curators, and the American Historical Print Collectors Society.

Eligibilty                                                                                                                                                                                                   

  • All entries must be of original design and personal execution created within the past 2 years.
  • Artwork previously shown at View is not eligible.

Fees                                                                                                                                                                                                            

A non-refundable entry fee of $32/ $27 for members of View enables the artist to submit up to 2 works. Each artist may submit a total of 5 works at a cost of an additional $10 per image.   Payment should be made at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com. Entry fees must be paid by the entry deadline.

Legal                                                                                                                                                                                                           

  • All works must be of original design and copyright of the artist.
  • View reserves the right to utilize all images submitted to Various Flora & Fauna in promotion of the exhibition and for the general promotion of View.
  • View may rescind the right of hanging any work unsuitably presented or misrepresented.

Selected Works                                                                                                                                                                                                     

  • Selection notification will be sent by May 13, 2016
  • Selected paintings must be received at View no later than June 9, 2017
  • View will retain a 35% Commission on all works sold.
  • Selected artwork must be suitably framed and ready for installation
  • All shipping is at the expense of the artist. There will be a $10 handling fee for each package shipped to View. The handling fee covers condition reporting and photographing of the work as it arrives, and follow up conditioning and repacking at the conclusion of the exhibition.  You must include a prepaid shipping label for the return of the work. Accepted artists will receive detailed information regarding shipping and handling requirements.

Entering Your Images

  • You can enter your images online at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com
  • Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. 
  • List sizes up to the nearest inch. 
  • Submitted images must not include matting or frame. 
  • Crop the photos to include only the artwork. 
  • Be sure your images are right-side-up.
  • Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. 
  • Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.
