Hand Build and Decorate Functional Pottery

This is a great class for students who are interested in learning how to build and construct functional pottery pieces. Emphasis will be placed on creating with extruded forms and exploring decorative techniques such as transfer paper and underglaze!
Skill level beginner/intermediate. Some clay experience recommended. Students will learn classic hand building techniques and approaches to build, construct, and decorate functional pieces. Each week a new project will be introduced to expand your skills and techniques. Students will learn hand building techniques to form plates, vases, cups, and create a functional casserole dish! Students will learn how to roll out clay with the slab roller, and use a manual and hydraulic extruder templates to create a variety of forms and designs. Instructors will review equipment and tools, as well as basic studio etiquette. All works created will be glazed and fired. Please bring your own apron/smock.
Due to current Covid-19 guidelines we are asking all interested students if you are fully vaccinated, as a part of our registration process. At this time you do not need to be fully vaccinated in order to participate in in-person workshops. This information will only be used for the View Center for Art and Culture to prepare proper seating for our classes in accordance with CDC and New York State guidelines.
Masks and social distancing required if you are not fully vaccinated and or cannot provide proof of vaccination to the front desk.
