Winner of last years Winter Air exhibit, Alice Valenti lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland. She received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, an MA from Drexel University and is currently pursuing an MFA at Towson University. Ms. Valenti also teaches art appreciation at the Community College of Baltimore County as an adjunct faculty member. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the northeast.
Branches is comprised of a series of small landscapes. The works are representational in nature, yet function as visual mementoes that incorporate elements of documentation, memory and imagination within their creation. Valenti’s intimate drawings employ a variety of rhythmic mark-making techniques that invoke the flux of light and wind among tree branches and bring about memories of long days spent in the embrace of the natural environment. According to Valenti each “image exists as an independent place, with its own rhythm of light, color, form, and line that unifies the viewerʼs visual experience. The stuff of the work should remain on the surface of the paper while pointing to another world.”
