I love to travel, and am often inspired to create artwork from my travels. It wasn’t until I started visiting the national parks that I really began to take note of the wonders that the natural world has to offer. In 2019, my husband and I set off on an ambitious road trip, aiming to drive to 21 national parks and monuments in one month, while camping in the back of a Tesla Model 3. Many of our friends and family members didn’t think we could cover so much distance in so little time, especially taking scenic back roads rather than highways. Getting off the interstate ended up being one of the best decisions we made on the trip- some of the most amazing sights are only found off the beaten path. When you connect with a landscape, it’s all about the mood you feel- your emotional response to it. It’s like gazing into the eyes of another person for one intimate moment. I want to inspire those who see my artwork to hold that gaze, instead of quickly glancing away.

Catherine LaPointe Vollmer is a graphic designer and fine artist from Potsdam NY. She works in the style of Modern Impressionism. Modern impressionists seek to capture the fleeting effects of light through loose and expressive marks. Catherine has discovered a love of soft pastels, whose rich colors and loose strokes lend themselves well to the Impressionist style. Catherine creates full-time from her home studio as well as en plein air, or outside on-site. She is a member of the Pastel Society of America and the current Secretary of the Adirondack Pastel Society. For more information, or to see more of Catherine’s work, visit CatherineLaPointe.com.
