Jan Palmer: A Retrospective

August 8 - September 13, 2020

Next Session: Saturday, August 08, 2020 - Sunday, September 13, 2020 / All Day
"I am now in my eighth decade, still actively painting and each week trying new ideas and new ways to paint the old ideas. My style is painterly representation with the object of focus often handled in some detail against a freely painted background and with light a most important element. Because I had a foot in each discipline (fine art art and illustration) one is bound to influence the other. I want a portrait to be more than a likeness; I want it to express a mood or an idea. If it's a portrait of an old house I want to tell a story of its past family life. Landscapes, more frequently than not, have a figure in them. Living and painting in the Adirondacks has made me feel a kinship with a  long line of realist painters who have been inspired by this beautiful area."
