View will present the new American opera The Falling and the Rising at View on Sunday, September 23rd at 3:00 PM. This opera will be performed by Seagle Music Colony and directed by Richard Kagey with musical direction by Tony Kostecki.
The Falling and The Rising chronicles the imagined journey of a soldier suspended inside a coma after a roadside attack. We follow our soldier as she makes her way through a coma-induced dreamscape punctuated by powerful encounters with other fellow service members, each on the brink of discovery. Together, they must find clarity, consciousness, and communal hope inside a strange and ever-shifting universe.
Created from compiled interviews of returning soldiers at Walter Reed National Medical Center, Arlington Cemetery, and Fort Meade, The Falling and the Rising is an inspirational story of service, sacrifice, and connection inside uncertainty. This operatic soldier’s odyssey was created to honor the indomitable spirit of our military veterans and to shed light on the power of their often overlooked stories.
The Falling and the Rising stars soprano Shelly Mihm, mezzo-soprano Meghan Folkerts, tenor Anthony Rohr, baritone Scott Clark, and baritone Ryan Hill with accompaniment from Neill Campbell. Seagle Music Colony is the oldest summer vocal training program in the United States.
Tickets for this event are $35 for guests and $30 for View members with special military pricing of $20 for all active military with ID.
Glens Falls National Bank is sponsoring veterans to come to this event for free.
