Alyssa Filardo, a Graduate and Award Winning Pianist at the Crane School of Music at Potsdam, will be performing a collection of pieces by Frederic Chopin.
She began playing piano when she was six years old. At the Crane School of Music, Ms. Filardo has performed in numerous piano area recitals and has collaborated with colleagues for the student composers recital and the Crane honors concert. Her dedication and frequent work as a vocal and instrumental accompanist has resulted in her being awarded the Susan Smykla Udell Scholarship. She spent the summer of 2013 in Salzburg, Austria, where she studied vocal accompanying through the Frost School of Music.
Ms. Filardo has performed as a member of the Crane Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, and joined the ensemble for a performance of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with the Crane Chorus in May 2014. She has studied with both Dr. Paul Wyse and Dr. Sonia Wheaton Dudley. During her senior year, studied with Dr. François Germain. Last fall she performed the first movement of the Camille Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2 with Crane Symphony Orchestra.
Considered Poland's greatest composer, Frederic Chopin focused his efforts on piano composition and was a strong influence on composers who followed him. Born on March 1, 1810, in Zelazowa Qola, Poland, Frederic grew up in a middle-class family. He published his first composition at age 7 and began performing one year later. in 1832, he moved to Paris, socialized with high society and was known as an excellent piano teacher. His piano compositions were highly influential. He died on October 17, 1849, in Paris, France.
