Internationally Acclaimed Ballet at View Arts
Suzanne Farrell Brings Kennedy Center to Old Forge
Suzanne Farrell, one of the most celebrated dancers of the 20th century, and the famed muse of choreographer George Balanchine, will present an evening of ballet at View Arts in Old Forge. Since her retirement from the New York City Ballet in 1989 at the age of 44, after a thirty-year dancing career, she remains a legendary figure in the ballet world. In the addition to serving as the Artistic Director of her own ballet company at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, she is also a repetiteur for the The George Balanchine Trust.
During her twenty-eight years on the stage, she danced a repertory of more than one hundred ballets, nearly a third of which were composed expressly for her by Balanchine and other choreographers, including Jerome Robbins and Maurice Béjart. Her numerous performances with Balanchine's company (more than two thousand), her world tours, and her appearances in television and movies have made her one of the most recognizable and highly esteemed artists of her generation.
During "An Evening with Suzanne Farrell," on July 10th, Ms. Farrell will speak about her life in the Adirondacks, her remarkable career and her relationships with some of the world's most celebrated choreographers. Her Adirondack Cedar Island Summer Program students will demonstrate a look inside a dance class.
In the second half of the program, Ms. Farrell will present dancers from her Kennedy Center company "The Suzanne Farrell Ballet" in a dynamic program that features Balanchine pas de deux presented live onstage with narration by Suzanne Farrell. This crowd-pleasing program is excellent for educating audiences that are not familiar with classic ballet repertoire, and it will be an inspiration to dancers and ballet aficionados who will have the opportunity to watch Ms. Farrell's dancers in the intimate setting of View's Gould Hall.
