Instructor: Martha Starke
Learn how to turn pressed flowers, ferns, herbs and leaves into whimsical works of art! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn all about the process of flower pressing. We’ll talk about the best plants to work with, how to prep them for the press, and learn about different methods of pressing.
You’ll then spend the remainder of the workshop arranging compositions of pressed botanicals to create your own art-work. We will glue down finished pieces that can be taken and framed or used for other projects. Each participants will leave with several pieces of their own art.
All supplies and equipment will be provided. You’re welcome to bring your own pressed flowers to add to the assortment offered.
Martha Starke began her fascination with pressing flowers as a child when she picked a Lady’s Slipper blossom and proudly offered it to her parents. After gasps and a gentle lesson in endangered species, they let her keep it and press it. She has been making art with pressed flowers ever since. She has been creating Petal People for a decade, growing her own botanicals but also plucking them from unassuming fields and roadsides and the occasional supermarket bouquet.
