Linda Bigness is offering an Encaustic workshop. The workshop is for artists of all levels interested in the art of encaustics (hot wax painting). This 2-day introductory workshop, 10-4 pm each day will offer the basics of the art form and the hands-on experience of creating a small piece with an introduction of materials and overview of techniques. Please enroll early as the workshop is limited to 10 participants to allow for adequate working space.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the luminous beauty and versatility of encaustic painting. The workshop will focus on encaustic painting basics, as well as how to easily and inexpensively incorporate encaustic into a regular studio practice. Equipment and tools, encaustic paint recipes, pigmenting options, painting supports, safety considerations and more will be discussed. Participants will learn how to create image, texture, and line using a variety of techniques and how to embed collage elements, found objects and image transfers within translucent layers of wax. Ample time for hands-on work will be provided. Workshop includes all materials for one project. Handouts with important materials information and on-line resources will also be available.
