Plein Air Painting in Oil: Taking your Studio Skills Outside.
For intermediate to advanced painters.
If you’ve been thinking about trying plein air painting but haven’t taken the plunge because you’re unsure of materials and methods, this class is for you. You’ll learn how to work quickly, lighten your load to a limited palette of colors and brushes, learn the importance and facility of on-site thumbnail sketches, and be shown how to fit everything into a backpack. Class will include outdoor painting, weather permitting, a demonstration, and time for students to start their own sketches and paintings and ask questions as they go.
The presenter, Susan Whiteman, is a painter based out of Saranac Lake whose plein air oil painting, “All Quiet” won People’s Choice award at the 2022 Tupper Arts Plein Air Festival, and her studio pastel, “Our Little Town,” won 1st Place at the Adirondack Artists Guild’s 2019 Annual Juried Show. She is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America. Susan’s work in oil and pastel have been featured in galleries across New York State.
