Director of Events

Full time exempt position located in Old Forge, NY

Job Description & Responsibilities:

View, located in Old Forge, NY, is seeking an organized, creative, enthusiastic, experienced individual to plan and direct all View events. The Director of Events is responsible for all facets of View events including: Annual Gala, House Tour, Antiques Show, Fine Art and Craft show, Chili Bowl Luncheon, Plein Air Paint Out Auction, and Brewfest. The ideal candidate will also have experience in and a passion for marketing.

This position will be responsible for all facets of facility rentals including promoting weddings, conferences, and outside events as well as establishing a protocol for caterers who use View’s catering kitchen.

The Director of Events will work closely with other department staff members and will develop partnerships with local businesses and organizations. The Director will be responsible for leading a team of volunteers and interns at times.

This position has flexible hours with frequent weekend and evening responsibilities, especially during the summer months. The Director of Events reports to the Executive Director and holds the key role in planning, execution, and success of View events.

Ceramic Artist-in-Residence Program

This residency program is designed to encourage the creative, intellectual and personal growth of emerging and established ceramic artists. The primary goal of the program is to allow a creative space to develop one’s work within View’s state of the art pottery facility. There is also the potential to gain professional experience teaching courses and working with members of View staff on studio management.

The resident will work no more than 20 hours a week in the studio and is responsible for managing a clean, smooth running pottery studio including, but not limited to: integrating teachers into the studio, firing the kilns, reclaiming clay, making glazes, maintaining supplies inventory and assisting with fundraising activities.

The resident will be required to give an artist talk about their work.

View will provide the Resident with access to our state of the art ceramic studio. View will cover firing and materials costs for residents. Limited housing may be available; please inquire when applying.

We offer adult and children’s classes and there are always paid teaching opportunities. Residents may participate in View workshops and classes for the cost of materials, if room is available.

Residents will have the possibility for an exhibition of their work at the end of their residency, dependent upon resident's stay and gallery availability.

Located in the Central Adirondack's, this resort community offers the Adirondack lifestyle with many activities and part time employment is generally available.

  • Typical residents might include those who completed their Ceramics BFA or MFA programs

Residency Duration

  • Determined by each residents individual need with a minimum of three months
