Miyako Schanely
Miyako Schanely and her husband Steve have enjoyed the Adirondacks for over 25 years. In 2019 they retired to Old Forge after Miyako completed a career in higher education that included both teaching and leadership positions with SUNY Oswego, SUNY Potsdam, and SUNY Jefferson, as well as the Samaritan Health System and Jefferson Rehabilitation Center in Watertown.
In retirement, Miyako has been a catalyst in the music community in the western Adirondacks by organizing the Old Forge Community Chorus, directing the choirs at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church and Big Moose Community Chapel, singing in the Adirondack Community Chorus, and chairing the Mathias Memorial Music Award Committee and the Music Committee at Big Moose Community Chapel. She and Steve both volunteer with the Inlet Mighty Loons youth hockey and skating program. Before retiring Miyako was actively involved with and served as Past President of Watertown Sunrise Rotary, as well as volunteering with and serving as board member and Past President of Thousand Islands Area Habitat for Humanity.
