View’s 10th Annual Chili Bowl Luncheon will be taking place on Saturday, February 20 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Homemade meat & vegetarian chili, stews and soups prepared by local restaurants, will be served in handmade bowls from the Pottery Workshop at View as well as many artists who deliver their bowls to View from towns nearby and as far away as Ithaca and Syracuse. The potters this year will be making many styles of crock type bowls with either one or two handles attached.
Many of the generous local and area potters who have been hard at work making the bowls for this event will also be displaying their works in the Regional Ceramics Exhibition that will be on display from February 12 until March 12.
One of the participating local potters Bette Rintrona, has been inspired to create pottery for over 30 years. She is currently teaching hand building classes at View and is an active volunteer. She has been busy coordinating the pottery contributions from both local artists and those living in the surrounding area. Bette explained that there will be around 400 bowls at this year’s Chili Bowl Luncheon and that she is more than appreciative of everyone who is taking the time to participate. Most of the potters will contribute between 10 - 25 bowls each. After participating in and teaching many different pottery classes, Bette has noticed that contributing to community events brings a real energy to the studio. When speaking about the Chili Bowl Luncheon Bette said, “There is a common goal for all, which draws everyone together. The goal is not for us; it’s for the community and the Art Center.”
