OFFERED CLASSES FOR CONFERENCE PACKAGES

Happy Villages with Karen Eckmeier Tuesday 9:00am - 4:00pm: Explore the freedom of fabric collage! No seams to piece or match, no lines to trace, just free form cutting of step and window shapes. Step by step, students will see their very own little village magically come to life. Finished size will be: 16 and 1/2 inch square. A materials list of required items will be sent to students once they register. Students may choose to bring a sewing machine for this class. Most students will prefer to spend time leisurely collaging, however for those who tend to work quickly, bringing your machines to us at the end of the day is highly advised. This is a full day workshop option. Click here for the supply list:  Happy-Villages-Supply-List.pdf

Successful Scrap Quilts with Margaret Sykes Wednesday 9:00am - 4:00pm: Scrap quilts should seem to be made with random assortments of fabric scraps, but successful scrap quilts require planning, as all quilts do. It is all about color value, not necessarily the fabric choices themselves. In this class, Margaret will explain how she goes about choosing fabrics for her award winning quilts, and how she chooses the patterns for those quilts. Students will be guided by Margaret through the planning stages, so that they can start to create their own successful scrap quilt. Students will be looking at how they choose a pattern, how to select the right color values of their fabrics, what results they are looking to achieve, tips for easy preicing and most important of all where do they start! All students are required to bring their own sewing machine to class, so they can get start on their quilt assembly. This is a full day workshop option. Click here for the supply list:  Successful Scrap Quilt Supply List

Monoprinting on Fabric with Linda Stern Wednesday 9:00am - 12:00pm: In this workshop, students will be Monoprinting on fabric while exploring how to create layers of texture using different kinds of plates and mask-making tools. Student will experiment with additive and subtractive techniques using gelli plates and other surfaces. Some of the prints will be masterpieces, but students will also explore how to salvage and overdye less successful prints to add interest. Fabric paints and printing tools will be provided. Students will bring white fabric and walk away with prints and ideas for how to incorporate your one-of-a-kind fabrics into an art quilt.  This is a half day workshop option. Making Art Quilts Incorporating Metal and Found Objects with Nancy Mirman Wednesday 1:00pm - 4:00pm: Fabric is marvelous, but adding metal or found objects can take your art quilts into a new and interesting direction. Students will learn how to play around with wire, metal mesh, and metal sheeting in copper, brass and silver as embellishments, or as the central focus of their quilts. The various metals are included with the class fee! Students will also consider the use of found objects which could be... anything they find of interest. This could be leaves, paper or maps, cardboard, tree bark, old costume jewelry, washers, small twigs, the list is endless! Students are asked to come to this class with two small background pieces, and by the end of class will have created two works of art.  This is a half day workshop option.
