The Story Behind the Story: Adirondack Kids Author Lecture and Book Signing with Gary VanRiper

Join Gary VanRiper for this FREE open to the public author talk and book signing.

Gary Van Riper will talk about how his series The Adirondack Kids, how it started and became what it is today.

Gary VanRiper is an award-winning journalist, photo-journalist and children's book author. Adirondack Kids Press, Ltd. was established by the VanRiper family  to launch the Adirondack Kids® book series. To date, more than 125,000 books in The Adirondack Kids® 16-volume series have been sold.
His writing and photographs have appeared in numerous publications over the years including Adirondack Life, Birders' World, Wildbird, The Conservationist, Farm & Ranch Living, New York Alive, Guideposts, Modern Photography and Petersen's Photographic. For seven years heco-published an award-winning community newspaper, The Camden Times & Beach Journal. He has also hosted Adirondack Journal, a regular feature on the weekly regional television show, Mohawk Valley Living and now writes a monthly article for the Mohawk Valley Living Magazine.
On his "days off", his wife, Carol, has him speaking to children in public and private schools and at libraries and conferences throughout New York state about the importance of reading and with advice on how to begin writing.
Gary's personal interests include wilderness hiking, reading, writing, photography, coaching basketball, singing, playing guitar and assembling jig saw puzzles/ His favorite author is Annie Dillard.
He became Adirondack 46er #6202 in 2007 having climbed 32 of the 46 high peaks that same year between May and October. He has also completed the Firetower Challenge, the Cranberry Lake 50, the Saranac 6 and is currently working on completing the 100-Highest peaks of the Adirondacks.
