Overview

Discover the art of slab building in this hands-on pottery class with pottery instructor Tom Montague. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, you’ll learn how to create hollow letters or numbers out of clay slabs that will then by integrated into each other in a structurally sound way to create stunning wall hangings that are both durable and unique. We’ll explore creative techniques to make your ceramic artwork stronger and crack-resistant, while experimenting with form, color, and balance. From cutting and joining slabs to bonding them with scoring and slipping, you’ll master essential skills using a variety of clay tools. Come play with clay, unleash your creativity, and create something truly special!  After being bisque fired students can glaze work in a variety of ways depending on the look they would like to achieve. Class will involve 2 days of building on Saturday and Sunday, and 1 day of glazing (optional) on Thursday. Finished work can be designed to hang on a wall. Some ideas of things we can create for this class; initials for someone’s name, address numbers for outside of a house, “ADK”…  Students are welcome to bring a copy of their word, name or number printed out in the font of their choosing.  Please limit words and numbers to 4 characters if possible.  Finished pieces will measure up to 17"x8"x3".  

Materials are included in the cost of the class.    

Kids 14 and older are welcome.    

No previous pottery experience is required.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the first day of a class will receive a 100% refund, or can be exchanged for another class. Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to the first day of class can only be exchanged for another class. No refunds or exchanges will be made for failing to show up to class without prior notice.

In the event that View were to cancel a class, a full refund for the class will be issued.
