Overview

For painters with some or no experience, this class will offer a demonstration of a painting from a blank canvas to partially complete, and will include a discussion of methods, materials, technical considerations like composition, values (light and dark) vs. hues (color), how to make a compositional sketch, color mixing and more. Students may choose to paint along or just take notes. For those choosing to paint, there will be time at the end of class for critiques or helpful hints!

The presenter, Susan Whiteman, is a painter based out of Saranac Lake whose plein air oil painting, “All Quiet” won People’s Choice award at the 2022 Tupper Arts Plein Air Festival, and her studio pastel, “Our Little Town,” won 1st Place at the Adirondack Artists Guild’s 2019 Annual Juried Show. She is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America. Susan’s work in oil and pastel have been featured in galleries across New York State.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited!
