Overview

The entertainment program on Neighbor Day begins at noon under the tent in the Courtyard. Bringing entertainment and atmosphere to this friendly community event, we hope you will enjoy these talented "neighbors" of View:

12-1:00pm:

Penny is a retired Speech Therapist who lives in Virginia part of the year, and Old Forge for the other.  She has sung in bands and as a solo vocalist/guitarist for over 40 years.  She has played in View's Concerts in the Courtyard series for the last two summers and will this again this summer on August 26th. She puts her own twist on an eclectic collection of covers from the 60’s through to the 21st Century (think John Denver, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Loggins and Messina, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Norah Jones, The Beatles, The Bee Gees...). Her joy of singing is infectious; and while her rich voice can bring an audience to tears of laughter, she can as easily move one to tears of pathos. In her retirement, sharing music with people in any way she can is her passionate mission!

1-2:00pm:

Jim and Gwen have been playing together since Gwen was a teenager, and are no strangers to View, having entertained at many an art opening and Concert in the Courtyard. Father and daughter both sing. Dad accompanies on multiple string instruments, and daughter on guitar as they pick and sing their way through an entertaining program of traditional blues repertoire. Jim is a retired art teacher living in Old Forge, and paints with The Mountain Air Painters regularly. Gwen is a veteran of View having worked as their Events Manager, and is now a music teacher at the North Country School.

2-3:00pm:

Cincinnati Creek is a CNY bluegrass group celebrated for its toe-tapping melodies, tight three-part harmonies and inventive original tunes. Bandleader Lori Thompson sings lead and harmony vocals and plays the mandolin and guitar. She performs many of the original songs that are often inspired by local historical events. Chris Pepe plays the banjo and sings bass vocals in the band. In addition, he is the band’s sound engineer. As the third founding member of “The Creek,” Cathy Martin plays the upright bass and sings lead and high harmony. Providing humorous banter throughout the group’s performances, Joe Rowlands sings lead and harmony vocals and plays harmonica and guitar. Drawing on their extensive backgrounds in bluegrass, country, and folk, the members of Cincinnati Creek are all soloists in their own right, and come together as a dynamic harmonious ensemble.
