Overview

The 1st Signature Exhibition of 2026 for the Central New York Watercolor Society showcases recent paintings by those members who have had a body of their original artwork previously juried and selected for Signature designation. These members may use “CNYWS” after their names on their work.
Signature members also have a further opportunity to work toward Medallion status in CNYWS. Those who have satisfactorily completed exhibition requirements continuously for a two- year period may earn Silver Medallions. Gold Medallions are awarded to those members who satisfy all exhibition requirements for an additional two years, beyond earning the Silver Medallion.

The Central New York Watercolor Society promotes the joy of watercolor painting through annual exhibitions, workshops, watercolor and water media demonstrations, and other educational outreach.

CNYWS was formed in February 1982 with fourteen charter members from the central New York State region. The Society was organized with the assistance of Mario Cooper and his wife, Dale Meyers, both past presidents of the American Watercolor Society, as well as Clarence Say, and Dan Meyers, past presidents of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.

The first President of  CNYWS was Willard J. Sauter of Utica, N.Y
