Overview

Take the mystery out of glazes in this beginner-friendly introduction to glaze chemistry with Kristen Martin. Designed for ceramic artists of all levels, this workshop breaks down the essential components of glazes—silica, alumina, and fluxes—and how they work together to create color, texture, and surface effects.  Bring your notebook and glaze questions!

Participants will explore how to read and understand glaze recipes and troubleshoot common issues like crazing, pin-holing, and inconsistent finishes. Kristen will guide you through the “why” behind your results, helping you move from guesswork to informed decision-making in your glazing process.

Perfect for anyone ready to deepen their understanding of surface design, this class blends approachable science with practical studio application—no lab coat required!
