Outdoor Adventures with Gary Lee - Vol. 333

Looking at the large map there is much more moisture coming from the west of us all this week. I only had three quarters of an inch from the gentle rain we got over night and today. That was good to get as there were a few brush fires locally on Friday and over the weekend. With the high winds we had on Sunday they could have been a lot worse. These were roadside so you could get water to them quickly and knock them down before they spread extremely far.

Several reports of trees in and across the local roadways from the strong and gusty winds. One took down live wires along the North Shore Road at Rondaxe which set several little fires along the road. In some places the South Shore Road and Stillwater Roads were completely blocked by down trees.

I watched a few people trying to get their boats out at the Fourth Lake Boat Launch where white caps were rolling in more than two feet high which made a challenge for the boaters.

A correction on the falls photo last week was Blue Ridge Falls just off the Blue Ridge Road opposite the campsite.

I did get out fishing a couple of days this week one with Doug Riedman after bass and we did catch a few nice ones. I was using my top water tiny torpedo and Doug using his wacky worm. He did out fish me, but I marked a couple for him as they missed my plug and all he did was throw his wacky worm there and they bit. We both got a couple over three pounds which were bulldogs on the line. The lake was dead calm and the tamaracks along the shoreline were golden yellow in refraction.

Another day Amy Sauer and I went over to Abanakee Lake to look at a juvenile Loon which was reported with a right-wing problem. We found the Loon below the Route 28 bridge. We watched it dive a few times fishing and could see it had a problem. We went out in the canoe and got within a few feet of the loon taking video with a cell phone of the problem. The other Loon chick from this territory was found dead a couple of weeks ago, don’t know the cause of this death yet. We hope to get out another day this week or next and catch this juvenile which will not be able to go south with these injuries.

Showing snow in Canada west of us so it can’t be far away but that’s another story. See ya.
