Overview

Learn to create small ink and watercolor paintings in the spirit of the “Urban Sketchers” movement using pencil, ink, and watercolor. Local watercolor artist Mary P. Murphy will teach participants how to see as an artist through the fundamentals of drawing, expressive ink mark-making, and an introduction to watercolor painting in this fun and approachable four-day workshop. Weather permitting, students may even head outdoors to paint on location.

Beginners are welcome, and more advanced painters are encouraged to join as individualized guidance will be offered to artists of all skill levels.

Mary P. Murphy has a studio in Barneveld in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. She works primarily in watercolor, oil, and pen and ink. Her work has been recognized in national exhibitions sponsored by the Art Students League of New York, the Cooperstown Art Association, the Marblehead Arts Association, the Hudson Valley Art Association, and View Arts Center. She was also featured in International Artist Magazine.

This four-day class meets on Saturdays from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM beginning September 12 and running through October 3. A half-hour lunch break will be included each day, and participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

Please bring any materials you already have. Mary will supplement supplies as needed so each participant has what they need for class.
