Bob Ripley was born in upstate New York. He is an honors graduate of the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University where he majored in advertising design. After graduation, he spent more than three decades as an art director at Central New York advertising agencies. During his busy career, his work won numerous regional and national awards.
Although his ad work was creatively fulfilling, Bob never lost his life-long interest in drawing and painting, and continued to hone his watercolor skills during his free time. He was and still is inspired by the masters of the medium, especially Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth.
Since his retirement from the advertising business, Bob is able to fully pursue his love of painting and the outdoor life. He has several outdoor hobbies and spends many hours fly fishing, canoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing. The Adirondack Mountains and the American West are among his favorite haunts and often the inspiration for his compositions.
Today, Bob and his wife Cheryl reside in the Finger Lakes countryside near Skaneateles, New York, where they share space with the local flora and fauna.
