"This Way Forward" by Kathryn Greenwold
Juror of Selection: Kathryn Greenwold
I was born into a family of writers and artists and grew up drawing, painting, and building things. My grandmothers introduced me to quilting and embroidery. It was these textile arts that caught my imagination. In partnership with Lynn Reynolds Makrin, I have written two books of quilt patterns. The first, Amish Shadows Light Reflected is an exploration of the traditional Amish Shadows block with instructions for 10 modern settings of this block. The second book, Roads to Everywhere, Ladders to Heaven explores the traditional Jacob’s Ladder and various “Roads to” blocks. It also includes instructions for 11 new settings of these blocks. I hold a BFA in Art History and a MLS in Library and Information Science. I am an active artist, author, teacher, lecturer, quilt judge and AQS-trained quilt appraiser. I am a member of two local guilds, the Capital Region Textile Artists, and the American Quilt Society.
"Himself" by Pat Harrison
Juror of Awards: Pat Harrison
Pat Harrison is a Certified Judge and current Webmaster of the National Association of Certified Quilt Judges as well as having served as President and Candidate Coordinator of the association in the past. She judges, teaches, and lectures nationally in addition to being an author, pattern designer, and award-winning long-arm quilter. A retired school librarian and teacher, she has won numerous awards for her quilts at major international shows. Pat especially enjoys encouraging quilters of all skill levels to give greater thought to their design process and in so doing, elevating their art and their joy in its creation. As a judge she feels she’s in a position to be able to encourage quilters through customized evaluations of their art.
Pat lives in rural Rhode Island with her retired mechanical engineer husband, Bob, who specializes in rehabbing the favorite portable of many quilters – the Singer Featherweight. They enjoy visits with their two daughters and their families, especially those four darling grandchildren.
