This series, “Beyond Branches,” is a study of trees, their magic and majesty. Carving a linoleum block, is reminiscent of seeing initials carved in a tree trunk; building a collagraph plate, layer on layer, is like viewing the rings of the tree. In some pieces I have used color to symbolize seasons, in others a fine Japanese paper to capture the delicacy of seed pods and flowers. I invite the viewer to share my joy, to enter the intimate embrace of leaves, feel the strength in the texture of bark, and sense evolving patterns and rhythms in the cycles of life, to see beyond the branches. - Nancy Mills
